Sabrina Ong
Sabrina has been registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a psychologist since 2010 and holds endorsements in Clinical and Forensic Psychology. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology(Honours) at the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), her Master of Forensic Psychology degree at Bond University and her Master of Clinical Psychology (Advanced Entry) at the University of Southern Queensland.
After graduating, she became a Senior Research Assistant for three years and published research articles, book chapters and other publications in the areas of vocational rehabilitation, return to work, cultural linguistics, offending behaviours, and fitness to stand trial. She also conducted family violence assessments for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for two years.
In private practice, Sabrina works mostly with adolescents and adults to cope with various mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, anger, substance use, trauma, grief, self-esteem, cultural adjustment, and marital issues. She can provide therapy in English, Mandarin and Hokkien and has attained accreditation with NAATI as a Paraprofessional interpreter.
Sabrina utilizes an eclectic approach in therapy, drawing from different modalities including CBT, ACT, Schema-focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy. She has a special interest in the treatment of trauma/PTSD and has been actively furthering her training and knowledge base in this area. In particular, she has been developing her skills in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy through the EMDR institute and is an accredited EMDR practitioner with EMDRAA. She is also currently doing her PhD research with the aim of developing an intervention for trauma-affected adolescents to better deal with interpersonal problems. Additionally, she is doing a Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) to become an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP), which will allow her to help people going through separation or divorce to resolve disputes. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at Bond University with a double major in Psychology and Criminology in 2011, a Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science at the University of New England in 2013, his Honours year at Bond University in 2014, and his Masters in Professional Psychology (Fifth Year) at the University of Southern Queensland in 2016. Shawn also published his thesis in the ‘International Journal of Psychological Sciences’ in 2015 on the “Psychological Capital Qualities and Psychological Well-Being in Australian Mental Health Professionals”.
Shawn is a Certified Individual Schema Therapist and is engaged in advanced Schema Therapy (ST) supervision and training. He has trained in CBT, DBT, ACT, MBSR, ST, Imagery, mode/parts, and chair work. Shawn uses an eclectic approach to providing psychotherapy and focuses on each client’s unique and individual needs. Shawn’s passion is to work collaboratively with his clients to improve their mental health states. He has a special interest in treating complex trauma and personality disorders, and his primary treatment modality is Schema Therapy.
Shawn also has a special interest in natural medicines and root cause therapies. He is certified as a Functional Nutritional Therapist with the NTA and as a Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider with the MHIMI. He looks forward to integrating his functional, nutritional, and integrative knowledge into his practice to provide his clients with a holistic approach to improving their psychological functioning and wellbeing.
