What To Expect At Your Visits
What To Expect At Your Visits...
It is important to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix:
Therapy is a process of healing that requires participation and commitment from the client and their significant others, who may have chosen to be part of the process. On the part of the psychologist, it requires specialised training and skills to assess the client’s needs and provide a treatment that is tailored to them. Here are some general things you can expect:1. Assessment: At the initial visit, the psychologist will likely ask you a lot of questions about your history, background, and current concerns to gain a better understanding of your situation.2. Goal Setting: Once the psychologist has a good understanding of your situation, they will work with you to set goals for your therapy. This might include identifying specific events and memories that have been affecting you or patterns of thinking and behaviours that you would like to change or improve.3. Treatment Plan: Based on the assessment and treatment goals, the psychologist will develop a treatment plan that outlines how you will be working together to achieve the goals. This may include a variety of therapeutic techniques such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), schema therapy, eye movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, or talk therapy.4. Ongoing Therapy: Once the treatment plan is in place, this is also the start of regular therapy sessions. During these sessions, you will discuss your progress with your psychologist and work together to overcome any challenges that you may be facing.
